The Food Services Department is regularly trying out new and exciting menu items for school lunches. On Friday, Columbia’s kitchen served up a taco pizza with salsa as the sauce, taco meat, a mix of cheddar and mozzarella cheese, and jalapenos, black olives and tomato as toppings.
“We’re eager to find menu items that are nutritious and also appealing to students,” said Food Service Manager Phyllis Sanford-Krug. “Each month we try to introduce a new menu item, give samples, solicit feedback and introduce students to new tastes.”
Other recent additions include fish tacos, popcorn chicken bowls, penne pasta with meatballs, chicken tacos, BBQ cowboy beans and creamy corn salad.
