Students at Genet Elementary School added to their knowledge of China on Tuesday from a primary source. Kathi Marcoux, a former teacher who is the grandmother of a student in Amy Picker’s third grade class, presented a slideshow of photos and discussed her firsthand experience in China.

Marcoux attended an educational symposium in China in 2010, visiting schools, sharing educational practices and spending time touring the country.

Her presentation followed the class’ unit on China, in which they learned about its geography, history and culture.

At the end of the presentation, students participated in hands-on activities such as writing Chinese characters.
