Columbia seniors Yang Yang and Aric Sanchez scored in the top 1% of more than 1.6 million students from across the country in the 2015 PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. They are eligible for National Merit Scholarships which will be awarded in the spring.
Yang and Sanchez are both excellent students with weighted GPAs above 98%. Yang is a member of the two-time state champion Science Olympiad team and participates in Math League. Sanchez participates in Masterminds, Math League and plays on the Columbia baseball team.
“We are very proud of their accomplishment,” said Principal John Sawchuk. “They have set the bar high for all of our students.”
Only 49 students from the Capital Region were named National Merit Scholarship semifinalists.
