District schools celebrated local veterans on Thursday by honoring them at assemblies and special events. Students performed songs, read poems and gave veterans homemade cards to show their appreciation.
“Veteran’s Day provides our students with a unique opportunity to learn about and to celebrate the values of courage, sacrifice and service above self from those in the community who best exemplify these traits, our beloved veterans,” Superintendent Jeff Simons said.
Columbia High School continued its tradition of students meeting veterans for a ceremony at the East Greenbush Cemetery. Students sang the “Star Spangled Banner” and “America the Beautiful” and they read poems and their own reflections about Veterans Day.
