Capital Project

The East Greenbush CSD has proposed a $116 million capital project that, if approved by voters, would improve facilities and grounds at all seven schools at no additional cost to the local taxpayer. The proposed capital project will be a proposition on the School Budget Vote and Board Election ballot scheduled for Tuesday, May 21, 2024.

Residents will have the opportunity to meet the four Board of Education candidates, who are vying for three open seats, on Wednesday, May 10 at 7 p.m. in the Howard L. Goff Middle School cafeteria.

The Board of Education election coincides with the District Budget Vote on May 16.

Each of the four candidates – Quinn Austin-Small, Michael Buono, Kathleen Curtin and Mark Mann – will discuss their qualifications and answer questions from the moderator and the audience. The event is sponsored by the District’s Budget Review and Advisory Committee and will be moderated by the League of Women Voters.

The Board of Education is a team comprised of nine volunteer community members. Members of the Board, who serve three-year terms, establish policy and set direction for the administration of the school district. New York State Education Law does not limit the number of terms of office a member may serve. Board members receive no salaries or other compensation.

The statements below were submitted by the candidates who filed nominating petitions by the deadline of Monday, April 17. This is the order in which they will appear on the ballot, which was determined by a random draw on Tuesday, April 18.

Quinn Austin-SmallQuinn Austin-Small

I am looking to join the East Greenbush School Board. I am a licensed psychologist and small business owner. I work as a contractor for the State, as well as an Independent Psychological Evaluator, providing forensic evaluations for veterans in disability appeals.

I have prior teaching experience as well, both in private Montessori schools and public schools in Los Angeles, California. Most importantly, I am a parent of two East Greenbush students, Peter and Alex, both of whom will be attending Goff next year. I wish to serve on the School Board to add diversity, administrative experience, and foster a strong, well-rounded, and high-quality school experience for all East Greenbush students.

I am seeking a third term on the Board of Education to continue to build on the successes of our district. Public education is changing significantly and these changes present many academic and financial challenges. I strive to work in a respectful, inclusive, and collaborative manner with the community, EGCSD employees, and our students and their families.

During my previous terms, our Board has advocated for an open planning process and for communication that builds on the many strengths of our district, while focusing on a fiscally sound budget and responsible leadership. I would welcome the opportunity to continue this work with our new Superintendent and the current Board of Education.

My husband, Jack, and I have lived in East Greenbush for 24 years. Our sons, John, Jim and Matthew, graduated from Columbia High School and our fourth son, Andrew, will graduate in June. Our boys benefitted from the wide variety of experiences that were offered both academically and through extra-curricular activities. I am currently employed as an administrative assistant in the Nursing Department at Maria College in Albany.

I have decided to continue my service to the East Greenbush Central School District’s Board of Education, by seeking a fourth term. Our district has been moving in such a positive and rewarding way, that I wish to remain as a valuable contributing member. I can assure you though, my intent has not changed since I ran for my first term, and that is to do what is best for our children, staff and residents of the district. I remain ready to bring our district to the forefront of the educational community.

Last year, I retired from the East Greenbush Police Department, where I dedicated almost 28 years to the law enforcement field. I still continue to serve in the military as a proud member of the New York Air National Guard/US Air Force. Service to my Nation, State and Community is something I enjoy, and work very hard at.

I currently reside in East Greenbush with my wife Tina. I have two children, my daughter is a 2016 CHS graduate, and my son is now a freshman at CHS.

I currently serve on the district’s policy, safety and code of conduct committees, and I am the board’s Vice President.

Michael BuonoMichael Buono

I am a lifelong resident of the area and my wife Heidi and I have lived within the East Greenbush CSD for the past 25 years. We are the proud parents of three children; Patrick (CHS 2012), Zachary who is a senior at CHS, and Leah, a 7th grader at Goff MS.

I graduated from Siena College with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and have worked in private and public sector human resources. I currently work as the Director of HR for Questar III. As an EGCSD board member, I have also participated as a member of the District’s Finance & Audit Committee and the Education and Technology Committees.

We have seen many positive changes in my first term on the school board. I am seeking a second term because I believe as a parent and member of the community that my experience can help support the continued future planning of our school district. We want to support staff and students in providing the best educational opportunities and facilities, while also being fiscally prudent. Understanding that balance is critical as a board member, and with your support, I hope to continue in my role as an EGCSD board member.
