With gold tassels hanging from their purple mortar boards, fifth graders at Donald P. Sutherland Elementary School walked across a stage in the school gym to receive their certificates at their Moving Up Ceremony last week.
Principal Jack Alvey led the ceremony and offered some advice to the graduating class.
“Take advantage of your loved ones that are in your lives. Use them for their guidance and wisdom,” he said. “Put forth your best effort in your schoolwork; demonstrating strong effort and having a good work ethic are very important.”
“Be good people,” he continued. “Utilize our Character Ed program as a foundation in life’s choices.”
To end the ceremony, the students sang the school song “I’m Proud to Go to DPS!” one last time.
