Michele Skumurski

The East Greenbush Central School District Board of Education filled its vacancy at last week’s public meeting when Michele Skumurski was sworn in. Mrs. Skumurski was one of five candidates who submitted letters of interest following Dr. Shay Harrison’s resignation in July.

Candidates were then interviewed by the Board of Education at a special executive session on August 30.

“The board is very pleased to welcome Michele Skumurski to the East Greenbush Board of Education,” said Board President Michael Buono. “She brings with her a deep commitment and long history of being active in the school community. This now brings the board to full capacity as we enter the new school year and we look forward to her active participation.”

Mrs. Skumurski, who works as a controller for Albany Medical Center, is a lifelong resident of the school district. Her oldest child graduated from Columbia this past June and her other two children attend Goff Middle School and Green Meadow Elementary School. Mrs. Skumurski serves as co-treasurer of the East Greenbush Education Foundation and volunteers for Junior Blue Devils Cheer and in district classrooms.

“I deeply appreciate the opportunity to serve our district,” Mrs. Skumurski said. “I pledge to be committed to supporting the district as they provide a vast array of opportunities that will foster and encourage each student to develop and prosper on their own individual road map to success.”

Mrs. Skumurski’s term will expire on May 15, 2018, the day of the Budget Vote and Board Election. She has the opportunity to run in the 2018 Board Election.
