A group of four students each held a string that connected to a rubber band and wrapped around a plastic cup. Together, they slowly lifted the cup and placed it atop other cups to form a pyramid. They had completed the challenge of creating a pyramid without using their hands.
The STEM activity fostered teamwork and problem solving among Green Meadow’s fifth graders.
“The students loved this activity,” said Special Education Teacher Colleen Reinstein. “While reflecting with their peers they talked about the importance of compromise, perseverance, taking initiative and patience.”
After the activity, students completed a written response to the importance of teamwork and how to overcome challenges.
