East Greenbush Central School District and the East Greenbush Police Department have completed the investigation into the alleged threat to Columbia High School and determined that there was no credible threat.
This past weekend, a Columbia High School student reported a concern about a potential threat to the school. The school district administration and the East Greenbush Police Department immediately launched an investigation into the report as we take any type of threat extremely seriously.
On Sunday evening, Superintendent Jeff Simons had learned that the potential threat was not credible and Columbia High School remained open for school on Monday. As a precaution, additional security measures were implemented at the high school including an added police presence. Columbia normally has a school resource officer, who is a uniformed East Greenbush police officer, at school from arrival through dismissal each day.
The investigation continued on Monday with interviews of students and a review of social media posts. It was determined that the threat was not credible and the issue is now resolved.
The school district is thankful to the students who provided information and to the East Greenbush Police Department for the swift action in completing its investigation.
This incident is a reminder to our students and school community that if you see something, say something. Anyone with information about a threat to one of our schools should come forward. You can call the school or law enforcement directly or submit an anonymous tip through the district’s online form: https://asp.schoolmessenger.com/egcsd/quicktip.
Student and staff safety remain the number one priority of the Board of Education and administration.
