The following letter was emailed home to all parents from Columbia High School on December 19, 2018.

Dear Parents/Guardians,

This letter is to inform you that beginning January 7, 2019, there will be a Service Dog in Columbia High School assisting one of our students. This Service Dog is trained to perform a specific task for the student and is able to assist him/her while learning at school.

This certified Service Dog is trained and recognized by an accredited training program under the Americans with Disabilities Act, and allowed access to public spaces.

All students will be informed as to proper procedures around the dog because the Dog is not a pet but a certified Service Animal and is working while at school.

We anticipate the Service Dog to be a benefit to the student’s learning, and we look forward to this new addition to our school community.

Thank you for your understanding and support. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at 518-207-2062.

Sincerely,

Helen Squillace
Director of Pupil Personnel Services
