Health Office

Welcome to the Donald P Sutherland health office website.

Please encourage thorough hand washing since 80 percent of germs are spread via hands.

Please keep your student(s) home if they vomit the night before or morning of school. This includes any intestinal symptoms or diarrhea. If your child has a fever, please keep him/her home until fever-free for 24 hours. Students should get plenty of rest and wear sneakers for gym and outside play.  Please help your child(children) to dress appropriately for the weather and bring a warm coat & gear for outside play.

Medications

In order to administer medication at school, the school nurse must have a doctor’s order and parent/guardian permission. This is for prescription medicine & over the counter medicine, including cough drops. The medication must be provided in a properly labeled (store or pharmacy label only) container and must be given directly to the school nurse by a parent. Students can not bring medicine to school or take it on the bus.

Physical, Dental & Immunizations

Students new to the district, as well as those in Kindergarten, grades 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 and 11 are required by New York State Law to have health exams. It is recommended that your child’s physical is completed by their private physician because they know your child’s history, leading to a more thorough exam. We do have our school doctor come in and provide physicals if your child has not had one or it is requested to be completed at school. NY state is also asking for dental forms on the same years as the physicals.

NY state requires the following immunizations to start school: 4-5 DPT, 3-4 IPV, 2 MMR, 2 Varicella & 3 Hepatitis B.
