Goff Farmer's Market open July through August
Looking for fresh organic produce, herbs and flowers this summer? Goff Middle School’s Farmer's Market, located just off Gilligan Road in East Greenbush, features items grown in the school’s Organic Garden by student and adult volunteers.
The Farmer's Market is open 8 a.m. to noon Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays through August.
Each morning, middle school students operate the retail business selling items from the garden. Students get practical experience picking, packaging and weighing the produce, calculating costs and making change for their customers.
Profits pay for next year’s garden seeds, fertilizer and tools. Any unsold produce is donated to local soup kitchens and food pantries on Thursday afternoons.
Goff’s Organic Garden is a school-based project that raises environmental awareness, teaches students where their food comes from and provides meaningful community service opportunities. Since 2003, the 1/2 acre garden has produced a wide variety of fresh vegetables, herbs and flowers.
No synthetic herbicides, pesticides or chemical fertilizers are used. In addition to an in-ground water supply and on-ground drip irrigation, the garden’s barn roof has solar panels that provide electricity for power tools, scales and accessories.
