COVID Updates and Information

Effective immediately, all children ages 12-15 are eligible to receive the Pfizer coronavirus vaccine, meaning all state residents ages 12 and up can now be protected against COVID-19. The Rensselaer County Health Department will be hosting a Pfizer Vaccine Clinic for 12 to 15 year olds at the McDonough Sports Complex at Hudson Valley Community College on Friday, May 14 from 3:00-6:00 p.m. Children must be accompanied by a parent and bring proof of age. This is a walk-in clinic. No appointment is necessary.

The day before Albany’s 38th annual Freihofer’s Run for Women, elite runner and 3-time USA team member Brianne Nelson visited Green Meadow Elementary School. She spoke to students in grades 2-5, including the Green Meadow and Bell Top Running Clubs.

Nelson gave the young runners tips on nutrition, how to train and race strategies. The following day, Nelson won the Freihofer’s Race for Women 5K with a time of 15:46.

After the national race, members of the Green Meadow and Bell Top Running Clubs participated in the 3K Junior Race. Green Meadow’s Carter Norton, Elle Hutton and Alex Swinnie all earned 1st place medals for their age groups. Bell Top’s Cameron Mingle placed fifth place overall and Seana Weerakoon placed first in her age group.
