Rainbow Games 1Students with special needs were cheered on by classmates, teachers and administrators as they competed in the Rainbow Games on Thursday after school at the Columbia High School turf field.

About a dozen students with a range of disabilities participated in track and field events, including:

  • 50m dash
  • 100m dash
  • 300m dash
  • Discus
  • Standing long-jump
  • Softball toss
  • Slalom obstacle course

The event was coordinated by Physical Education teachers Rich Jones, Chris Hosley and Anthony Servidone. They were assisted by student leaders who demonstrated each event for the participants, setup the courses and kept records.

“The Rainbow Games are a great way to recognize the true superstars of the East Greenbush School District,” said Physical Education teacher Rich Jones. “Watching the interactions of the Goff and Columbia students being challenged by their own track meet is very special for all who attend. It is a true honor to feel the spirit of competition and ensure the friendships created today are memories that will last a lifetime.”
