Kindergarten students at Donald P. Sutherland Elementary School met some furry friends last week as they learned about therapy dogs from older students.
Two dogs from the Nassau Veterinary Clinic – Gallant, who’s been a therapy dog for more than 10 years, and Lily, a therapy dog in training – were brought into Heather DiOrio and Shondra Conyers’ classes last Tuesday.
A group of 4th and 5th grade students gave a presentation to the kindergartners about therapy dogs, teaching them what they do and how they help people.
“The students did a great job with their research and presentation,” said Speech/Language teacher Allie Harling. “Gallant and Lily stole the hearts of everyone they met!”
