DPS therapy dog lesson 2Kindergarten students at Donald P. Sutherland Elementary School met some furry friends last week as they learned about therapy dogs from older students.

Two dogs from the Nassau Veterinary Clinic – Gallant, who’s been a therapy dog for more than 10 years, and Lily, a therapy dog in training – were brought into Heather DiOrio and Shondra Conyers’ classes last Tuesday.

A group of 4th and 5th grade students gave a presentation to the kindergartners about therapy dogs, teaching them what they do and how they help people.

“The students did a great job with their research and presentation,” said Speech/Language teacher Allie Harling. “Gallant and Lily stole the hearts of everyone they met!”
