Drinking water at all district schools is currently being tested for lead contamination in accordance with legislation enacted by New York State earlier this month. All five elementary schools will be tested by the deadline of September 30 and Goff Middle School and Columbia High School will be tested by their deadline of October 31.
Because health and safety are the District’s highest priority, it began voluntarily testing water fountains and sinks in May after media reports of lead contamination in other school districts and municipalities.
Results will be shared with staff, parents, community members and the NYS Department of Health when that data is available. Due to the increase in water testing at schools around the state, lab results could take up to a month after testing is completed.
