The Board of Education has approved two changes to the instructional model: 1) Kindergarten students will resume five days a week of in-person learning starting on Monday, March 1. The Full Remote Program is still available to families. 2) Live Virtual Wednesdays will be eliminated for students in grades 1-5 starting March 10 to provide one additional in-person school day every other week. The Columbia High School Advanced Placement U.S. History class took a journey back in time with the annual Gilded Age and Progressive Era Role Play on Tuesday.

Students took on the role of various figures from the late 1800’s and early 1900’s, becoming Captains of Industry, Robber Barons, Labor Organizers and social reformers.

They debated the issues of that time period, such as the appropriate role of government in the economy, how to help the poor, and the power of big business in America.

“The event went very well,” said history teacher Stephen Lapolla. “The students were able to get an in-depth understanding of the key figures and issues of this time period. Students were able to develop skills in research, presenting information and extemporaneous arguing.”
