The Columbia High School Advanced Placement U.S. History class took a journey back in time with the annual Gilded Age and Progressive Era Role Play on Tuesday.
Students took on the role of various figures from the late 1800’s and early 1900’s, becoming Captains of Industry, Robber Barons, Labor Organizers and social reformers.
They debated the issues of that time period, such as the appropriate role of government in the economy, how to help the poor, and the power of big business in America.
“The event went very well,” said history teacher Stephen Lapolla. “The students were able to get an in-depth understanding of the key figures and issues of this time period. Students were able to develop skills in research, presenting information and extemporaneous arguing.”
