Kindergarten Returns Full Time Starting March 1

The Board of Education has approved two changes to the instructional model: 1) Kindergarten students will resume five days a week of in-person learning starting on Monday, March 1. The Full Remote Program is still available to families. 2) Live Virtual Wednesdays will be eliminated for students in grades 1-5 starting March 10 to provide one additional in-person school day every other week. March 10 will be an in-person school day for B Day students and A Day students will have a remote day. The schedule will alternate going forward.

Super Mario ELA lessonFirst graders became Mario and Luigi as part of a fun and creative ELA lesson in Val Santillo’s class at Red Mill last week. The students wore mustaches just like the video game characters and moved through four different levels to try and save Princess Peach in their own Super Mario World.

Super Mario ELA lessonEach of the levels focused on ELA skills:

  • Level 1: Sentence Structure
  • Level 2: Noun/Adjective Card Sort
  • Level 3: Vocabulary
  • Level 4: Main Idea

“Each level became more difficult, but each of them rose to the challenge,” Mrs. Santillo said. “I’ve never seen them so motivated.”
