The Goff Middle School Student Council and Gay Straight Alliance (GSA) joined together to host Ally Day on Friday, a day for all students to show their support of LGBTQ+ students by pledging to speak out against bullying and intolerance.
Nearly 500 students participated either by pledging to be an ally or participating in the Day of Silence, a nationwide event in which students pledge to remain silent for the day, to draw attention to the bullying, shame and discrimination LGBtQ+ students experience.
All students and staff were invited to wear one of the colors of the rainbow as a show of support.
Ally Day concluded Goff Spirit Week, which also included Disney Day, Dress Like a Meme Day, USA Pride Day and Sports Day, sponsored by the Student Council.
“Having both groups come together for a positive message was a great way to end the week, and to celebrate the school spirit that Goff Middle School students exhibit every day!” said Goff English teacher and GSA advisor Rachel Mathis.
