Kindergarten Returns Full Time Starting March 1

The Board of Education has approved two changes to the instructional model: 1) Kindergarten students will resume five days a week of in-person learning starting on Monday, March 1. The Full Remote Program is still available to families. 2) Live Virtual Wednesdays will be eliminated for students in grades 1-5 starting March 10 to provide one additional in-person school day every other week. March 10 will be an in-person school day for B Day students and A Day students will have a remote day. The schedule will alternate going forward.

National Merit Commended StudentsSix Columbia High School students were named Commended Students in the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program recently. They were among the top 50,000 scorers of more than 1.6 million students who entered the competition by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

Each of the following students received certificates from Columbia Principal Michael Harkin on Monday afternoon:

  • Leif Haley
  • Rachel Haney
  • Sydney Sill
  • Joshua Thompson
  • Ryan Wei

“The young men and women being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success,” said a National Merit Scholarship Corporation spokesperson. “These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation.”
