A group of teachers from the East Greenbush Teachers Association celebrated Veterans Day by volunteering alongside their family members and Columbia High School students this weekend. The group of 30 volunteers raked lawns of veterans in town on Sunday and Monday, filling more than 100 bags of leaves.
“It was very rewarding to help those who have served our country,” said Columbia Social Studies teacher and EGTA member Daniel Wagner.
One veteran, Harry Fisher, was brought to tears with gratitude.
“In all my life I haven’t had people help me out this much,” Mr. Fisher said.
