The East Greenbush Central School District will begin a K-5 Redistricting Study later this month to provide a long-term view of the district’s enrollment projections and its impact on each of the school attendance zones. The objective is to learn more about the district’s future enrollment, how that is being influenced by new home and commercial property development, among other factors, and what the instructional needs will be for students as the district plans for the future.

The independent study, which was approved by the Board of Education at Wednesday evening’s public meeting, is a result of the feedback district officials received during community forums they hosted last month regarding the proposed rezoning plan. The survey will be conducted by the Capital Area School Development Association and led by CASDA faculty member and former Superintendent from Lansingburgh Dr. Lee Bordick, in coordination with the district’s Budget Review and Advisory Committee.

The study is expected to take approximately 10 months and will include an evaluation of current enrollment reports, discussions with town planning boards, public meetings with the BRAC committee and, at the end, a set of findings and recommendations for review by school administrators and the Board of Education.

“As we address space concerns at Bell Top, this study will complement our current enrollment study and provide our Board of Education with additional data regarding the residential development which is occurring within our neighborhoods,” said Superintendent Jeff Simons. “As new families choose to reside within our district, enrollment is beginning to increase in our elementary schools. The K-5 Redistricting Study will provide options including potential attendance zone adjustments we may need to make in the future to accommodate more children and ensure class size equity and efficiency across the five elementary schools.”

The study will begin on Monday, February 25 with a review of the 2018-19 East Greenbush Central School District Enrollment Projections report at the Budget Review and Advisory Committee meeting.
