Kindergarten Returns Full Time Starting March 1

The Board of Education has approved two changes to the instructional model: 1) Kindergarten students will resume five days a week of in-person learning starting on Monday, March 1. The Full Remote Program is still available to families. 2) Live Virtual Wednesdays will be eliminated for students in grades 1-5 starting March 10 to provide one additional in-person school day every other week. March 10 will be an in-person school day for B Day students and A Day students will have a remote day. The schedule will alternate going forward.

The next Board of Education meeting will be held on Wednesday, July 24 at 7:00 p.m. in the Central Administration Board Conference Room.

One of the discussion items will be a regulation passed by the NYS Education Department earlier this month regarding school safety plans. The regulation would require school districts to have a written contract or memorandum with police departments that provide school resource officers and have it incorporated into the district safety plan. Those contracts would “define law enforcement or security personnel’s roles, responsibilities and involvement within a school and clearly delegate the role of school discipline to the school administration.”

Residents are invited to comment on the district’s draft safety plan for 2019-20, which includes contracts with police departments that provide school resource officers, at the public Board of Education meeting on Wednesday or by submitting a comment to Superintendent Jeff Simons using an online form.
