A group of teachers from the East Greenbush Teachers Association teamed up with students, Town of East Greenbush employees, the East Greenbush Police Department and the local Cub Scout pack 2257 to clear the lawns of 15 local veterans on Monday as a thanks for their service. There were more than 75 volunteers working from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
“It was a very rewarding service for all involved,” said Daniel Wagner, a Columbia social studies teacher and EGTA member. “Raking the lawns of veterans is the least we can do for their service to our country.”
In all, the volunteers filled more than 200 leaf bags.
A wife of one of the local veterans said “Thanks for organizing this volunteer day!” She was so appreciate that she offered to make everyone hot chocolate.
Great job by our teachers and students who volunteered their time on Monday to rake leaves at the homes of local veterans! They filled more than 200 bags of leaves as a way of thanking them for their service. #VeteransDay pic.twitter.com/OULF5WpQ20
