DPS students holding decorated rocksIn honor of former Donald P. Sutherland Elementary School graduate Tommy O’Neil, students in Mrs. D’Amico’s 5th grade class painted #TommyRocks with Student Teacher Emily Velasquez. The students will be hiding their decorated rocks throughout the year in places that are special to them. Pictures of hidden and found rocks will be posted on Facebook with #TommyRocks as a tribute to Tommy.

Tommy, who graduated from DPS in 2009 and Columbia High School in 2016, was killed in a car accident this past May on his way home from college. Tommy was an outstanding student and athlete in the East Greenbush Central School District.

“As tribute to an amazing 20 year old young man tragically taken from us in May of 2019, we are taking our love for Tommy and painting rocks to hide, to bring joy to those that find them,” the #TommyRocks Facebook group says. “If found, please share a photo of the rock and location you found it so that we can see how far we can spread our love! We hope our rocks bring you a smile, as them being found brings us joy!”
