Dear Genet Families!

Happy Friday! What a fantastic Friday it was! We closed out our Character Education program today with a wonderful presentation by our 3rd Graders and celebrated all students who were recognized by staff for demonstrating the character trait of Citizenship! Our next Morning Program will be on Friday, December 6th. It will be led by Kindergarten and our character trait of the month is Kindness/Empathy. We hope you will join us!

As mentioned last week, if you have not opted in to the district’s text notification system in the event of severe weather (i.e. Snow Days or Delays), you can by following the directions at the link:

https://egcsd.org/alert

This is different than receiving e-mails from the district and requires additional authorization from you to join. I put this out to families just as a reminder for the winter season.

Along with the winter months is the need for appropriate attire for students. Please remember to send your child to school with the necessary clothing for outdoor recess as we try to take students outside as much as possible. Warm jackets, hats, gloves and snow boots/appropriate foot attire is required.

I hope that you all found our first Parent-Teacher Conference night informative. I spoke to many parents as they left Genet last Wednesday and appreciate all the comments and feedback that I received. If you missed your time slot this past Wednesday, please reach out to your child(ren)’s teacher and ask to reschedule for December 5th. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher.

News and updates from the Art Room, by Mrs. Letourneau
Third graders did a beautiful job on their warm and cool color overlapping fall leaf paintings. Students are now eagerly working on our Birds in Birch Trees lesson. We learned a new way to apply paint to create texture for tree bark, by using a piece of cardboard and swiping it across the tree trunk! Birds were created and painted on watercolor paper, which gave them the chance to observe and experiment on the paper’s interesting properties, especially how colors bleed into one another. Students were introduced to analogous colors and how these similar colors are neighbors on the color wheel.

News and updates from the Music Room, by Mrs. Scolaro
This week in music, grades K-2 have been participating in activities that encourages them to keep a steady beat through movement and dance. Such activities include Kindergarten classes moving a parachute to show phrasing in a song, first graders dancing in a group circle dance with a steady beat, and 2nd graders working together to pass rhythm sticks around the circle with everyone passing in time with the music. Each of these skills help students prepare for future activities in music class including activities with instruments! Great job everyone!
