On Friday, November 22, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advised “consumers not eat and retailers not sell any romaine lettuce harvested from the Salinas, California growing region” due to an E. coli outbreak.

Students, parents and staff should know that East Greenbush Central School District is following the guidance from the CDC and will not be serving any romaine lettuce from the Salinas, California growing region in school lunches until further notice.

The East Greenbush Food Service Department will prepare all salads with romaine lettuce from Yuma, Arizona and Astorga, Red & Green Leaf, and Green Butter head lettuce from sustainable aquafarms in Berlin, N.Y. and fresh products from the Black Horse Farm in Athens, N.Y.

The recalled salad products have “Use By” dates ranging from October 29, 2019, to November 1, 2019.

“Although the dates of our lettuce is not the same as the recall we will not be taking any chances,” said Food Services Manager Phyllis Sanford-Krug.
