Marie McBride receives CASDA award

Marie McBride, joined by Columbia Athletic Director Michael Leonard and Superintendent Jeff Simons, receives the CASDA Friend of Education Award.

Marie McBride was honored for her volunteer service to the East Greenbush Central School District when she received the Capital Area School Development Association (CASDA) Friend of Education Award last month in Albany.

CASDA presents this award to recognize the selfless contributions of individuals who dedicate themselves to serving students and their school communities.

Despite not having a child in the East Greenbush Central School District since 2009, Mrs. McBride continues to volunteer, and is currently the vice president of the Columbia High School All Sports Club because she appreciates the benefits her children received through participation in the program. Since 2001, she has been active in organizing and coordinating many of the booster club’s activities including the annual All Sports Club BBQ, the All Sports Club Pasta Dinner, the Athletic Hall of Fame Celebration, Homecoming, and more.

Each Spring, Mrs. McBride distributes flyers in support of the district’s annual budget at various sporting events. Her efforts are critical in drawing out the positive support the district needs in maintaining programs for students. Described as a “force of nature,” Marie was also instrumental in raising $35,000 in funding to maintain freshman sports.

“Marie McBride has made a lasting positive impact on Columbia Athletics,” said Columbia Athletic Director Michael Leonard. “She has worked hard to support all of our endeavors that benefit students and our school community.”

Congratulations to Marie McBride!
