Genet Elementary School sign in winterDear Genet Families!

Happy Friday! As we all know, Winter has arrived! I enjoy snow just as much as the next person but I want to make sure that everyone knows that our students will go outside for recess as often a possible. Please remember to send your child to school with the necessary clothing for outdoor recess. Warm jackets, hats, gloves and snow boots/appropriate foot attire is required. Today our Kindergarten students put on a wonderful Character Education assembly for our Character Trait of December – Kindness/Empathy. The song and skit were spot on and our kindergarteners worked so hard! We are planning our Sign-a-long to close out December and the Character Ed program on Friday, December 20th.

A final reminder to our families that if you have not opted in to the district’s text notification system in the event of severe weather (i.e. Snow Days or Delays), you can by following the directions at the link: https://egcsd.org/departments/safety-health-and-wellness/alert/
This is different than receiving e-mails from the district and requires additional authorization from you to join. I put this out to families just as a reminder for the winter season.

I hope that you all found our first Parent-Teacher Conference nights informative. It was wonderful to see and speak to many families last night at our second parent-teacher conference night. If you missed your time to meet regarding your child, please do not hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher to setup a meeting. I look forward to seeing you all again in March for our next Parent-Teacher Conference days.

News and updates from the Art Room, by Mrs. Letourneau
Fourth graders are well on their way to working on their large 18″x24″ animal collage project. Students initially created an abstract painting on this large paper using a variety of art materials. We also included texture tools to pull through the paint for interest. All these papers were torn in strips, which are currently being glued in a radiating position onto another large paper. In the next few weeks, students will decide which animal face features they would like to create to be cut out and glued onto this radiating collage. They may choose features of a dog, cat or bird. Oil pastels will be used on these features, and students will learn how to produce a reflective effect for the eyes. We are focusing on the idea of emphasis, as the eyes and nose features appear as though they are three dimensional. This is an intensive project for our fourth graders, who are already proving they are up for the challenge!

News and updates from the Music Room, by Mrs. Scolaro
It’s almost time for the 4th and 5th grade Winter Concert! These students have been working together since the beginning of September to prepare for this wonderful event. The concert will include performances by the 4th grade chorus as well as the 5th grade band, chorus and orchestra. We look forward to seeing you on the evening of Tuesday, December 17th at 7 p.m. in the Genet Auditorium. There will be a dress rehearsal at 9:30 a.m. that morning so the students will have an opportunity to perform for the school. We are so proud of these students and can’t wait for you to experience their musical talents!
