In honor and in the memory of former school counselor Joanne O’Leary, the East Greenbush Teachers Association helped the Nassau Resource Center Food Pantry prepare holiday meals for more than 100 local families in need.
The teachers, counselors and their family members packed bags for each family, including a ham or a turkey, gravy, cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes, green beans, corn, a bag of potatoes, a bag of pasta, a box of cereal, bread, peanut butter, jelly and gift cards.
“I was blown away by the amount of volunteers we had this year, it truly displays the generosity and kindness of our union,” said EGTA member and Columbia High School teacher Dan Wagner. “I am thankful for all who volunteered, whether you could make it or not, you all have helped families to have one less worry this holiday season. I’m sure Joanne is looking down and smiling upon us. May we all have a happy holiday and a happy new year!”
