Capital Project

The East Greenbush CSD has proposed a $116 million capital project that, if approved by voters, would improve facilities and grounds at all seven schools at no additional cost to the local taxpayer. The proposed capital project will be a proposition on the School Budget Vote and Board Election ballot scheduled for Tuesday, May 21, 2024.

Dear Genet Families!

Happy Friday! I hope you all had an enjoyable week and were able to enjoy the Super Bowl last Sunday! The school was abuzz with students and staff alike reminiscing about the game and the famous Super Bowl commercials. February has brought with it some wintry weather but Punxsutawney Phil in Pennsylvania did not see his shadow, indicating that spring will come early!

Our 5th Graders performed at the district wide instrumental festival this past week with all 7 buildings. 4th graders attended to preview what options are available to them next year as 5th graders. Our 5th graders performed beautifully at the direction of Mrs. Scolaro and Mr. Halek. Congratulations to everyone involved!

Genet has finished our month long read-a-thon of the Albany Ronald McDonald House. If your child(ren) has/have participated, please turn in any reading materials or collections to their classroom teacher so it may be counted and turned over to Mr. Siver and Genet’s Student Council. Please have all materials turned in by Wednesday, February 12th. We will make an announcement of our totals once everything has been collected!

Today, our second graders opened our Character Education Morning Program while focusing on this month’s character trait of Perseverance. I would like to thank our second grade team and students for organizing this month’s presentations. Parents are always welcome to attend our Morning Program!

Mark Your Calendars!!! This Thursday informational flyers for Genet’s upcoming STEM Fair were sent home with students. We are looking forward to student participation in this wonderful school wide event! Please take a moment and review the details outlined in the flyer. The STEM Fair will take place on Wednesday, March 18th from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM.

Reminders:  One of the most important factors in determining student success is a student’s attendance at school. When students are frequently absent, they miss out on important activities, learning opportunities and student-teacher interactions that take place in the classroom. This can also have an impact on student learning when students are habitually tardy (coming in late or leaving early) to school. Please also remember to send your child(ren) in with a note upon their return to Genet. We look forward to a continued year of success working together and watching your child(ren) grow!

Updates from the Art Room, by Mrs. Letourneau
Kindergarteners are continuing their primary color collages based on the artwork of Piet Mondrian’s Broadway Boogie Woogie painting. Students enjoyed listening to the jazzy beat of the music that Mondrian was inspired by, as they worked on their own creations. This week they will be adding more geometric shapes over their work, by printing black lines to create shapes, using the edge of cardboard.

First graders are in the process of completing their colorful mixed media folk art landscapes. Students are cutting shapes to create houses and buildings, as they tuck them into the middle and background mountains and hills. We are then adding all the little details, as they work on their finishing touches.

Congratulations to all of the 5th grade Band and Orchestra members who participated in the District-Wide Instrument Festival on Tuesday! It was wonderful for the beginning ensembles to be able to perform with another school as well as hear performances from the middle and high school ensembles. Great job, everyone!
