Earlier this week, out of an abundance of caution, the East Greenbush Central School District postponed all field trips and some large community events through the end of March while we monitor the situation with Coronavirus (COVID-19). While there are still no confirmed cases in Rensselaer County, there are additional cases of COVID-19 in neighboring counties, and the state has issued stronger restrictions for community gatherings.
The district has decided to take further steps to reduce the potential for community spread by temporarily canceling all indoor facility use functions requested by external groups. This does not include school district groups such as PTO meetings, which have small numbers of parents in attendance, or outdoor activities such as little league baseball or softball teams using outdoor fields on school grounds.
This decision was made for the safety of our students and staff, in order to limit as many people as possible from entering our buildings at the current time. This may help reduce any future exposure and allow our custodial staff to focus more on the necessary cleaning and disinfecting of our buildings, particularly in the evenings.
We appreciate the support and flexibility from our school community as we work through this evolving situation.
