The following letter regarding musical instrument selection for 5th graders next school year has been emailed to parents.
Dear Fourth Grade Families,
Historically, band and orchestra instrument selection takes place in the spring of the fourth grade year. Children have the opportunity to attend an instrument demonstration put on by their school’s band and orchestra teachers. At this meeting, band and orchestra instruments are played for the students. Each child provides the instrumental music teachers with their top three instrument choices. This information is compiled and students are assigned an instrument to begin in the fall of fifth grade.
As a result of the closure of schools for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year, the East Greenbush CSD Music Department has rescheduled the instrumental recruitment process for incoming fifth grade students. Band and orchestra instrument selection will take place during the first full week of school in September. The process will follow the same format described above.
In order for students and families to begin planning for instrumental music instruction in the fall, the music department has generated an instrument demonstration video. Students can access this video through his or her classroom teacher’s Google Classroom page or the
EGCSD webpage. Instrumental music is an exciting way for children to learn, practice, and perform as a part of an outstanding group of students. The East Greenbush Bands and Orchestras have a rich history of excellence and contribute positively to both the schools and community. We look forward to making music with your child!
