Superintendent Jeff Simons and Donald P. Sutherland Elementary School Principal Jack Alvey have been selected to participate on the New York State Education Department/Board of Regents Regional Task Force to help develop guidelines on re-opening schools in the fall.

Mr. Simons and Mr. Alvey will join teachers, administrators, board members, parents and experts at the Region 3 virtual meeting on June 22, which encompasses two dozen counties in upstate New York, including Rensselaer County and the entire Capital Region.

“I’m pleased to serve on the re-opening task force so that I can contribute to the overall state effort to ensure the continuance of high quality education within a healthy and safe environment for students, staff and community,” said Mr. Simons. “Involvement in the state-wide and regional effort will ensure our district’s plans for reopening and those of our neighboring schools are well informed.”

Both Mr. Simons and Mr. Alvey will serve on the task force sub-committees for transportation, food services, and buildings and grounds.

“I am honored to represent our school district community on the New York State Education Department Reopening Regional Task Force,” said Mr. Alvey. “I hope that my participation will help all school communities have a safe and healthy transition back into their school environment. Bringing this information back to the East Greenbush Central School District will help us move forward as we continue to develop our own district level plans.”
