The winter sports season schedule has been adjusted by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association. Only “low-risk” sports as determined by the NYS Department of Health, which includes Boys’ and Girls’ Bowling, are permitted to start on December 14. “High-risk” winter sports including Boys’ and Girls’ Basketball, Competitive Cheer, Ice Hockey and Wrestling have not been approved by the state.

Additionally, it is unclear if Indoor Track, which is considered a “low-risk” sport, will be able to take place this winter because the facilities they compete in are not accessible.

Schools are expecting further guidance later this month from the NYS Department of Health and NYSPHSAA regarding a timeline and guidelines for “high-risk” sports this winter.

Bowling Sign Up Information

Students in grades 7-12 will be able to sign up for Boys’ and Girls’ Bowling in the Goff and Columbia Health Offices starting Monday, December 7. Any 7th or 8th grade student requesting to try out for an upper level sport must go through the Athletic Placement Process (APP) in order to be eligible for high school Sports. Please send an email to Sean Leggett (LeggettSe@egcsd.org) or call him at 518-207-2084 to be added to the APP list. Please contact the Athletic Office if you have any questions. (518) 207-2080.

What About Winter “High-Risk” Sports?

Boys’ and Girls’ Basketball, Competitive Cheer, Ice Hockey and Wrestling have not been approved to start on January 4, 2020. We are waiting for guidance from the NYSDOH and NYSPHSAA on what the timeline is for “high-risk” sports this winter and the guidelines we must follow. The “high-risk” sports mentioned above will not be able to sign-up until we are given definitive dates for starting and at what levels.

Will Indoor Track Be Offered this Winter?

Indoor Track is not considered a “high-risk” sport. However, the facilities they compete in are not accessible at this time. It is unclear if Indoor Track will be able to compete this winter.

Please contact the Athletic Office at (518) 207-2080 if you have any questions.
