The East Greenbush Teachers Association donated coffee and donuts to the frontline workers at the UAlbany testing and vaccination sites on Wednesday.

The East Greenbush Teachers Association donated a breakfast of coffee and doughnuts, courtesy of Dunkin Donuts, and a lunch of pizza and drinks courtesy of Route 4 Pizza to the frontline workers and National Guard troops at the SUNY Albany COVID testing and vaccination sites on Wednesday.

The EGTA funded the donation by raising just over $1,200 through raffles for teachers and staff in all district schools over the past three weeks. Many times the winner gave the money back to be donated.

“We wanted to thank them all for the hard work they are doing to help us stay safe and be able to teach and be there for our students,” said Columbia Social Studies teacher Daniel Wagner. “Route 4 Pizza did an amazing job of cranking out 32 twenty-four cut pizzas and Dunkin’ surprised us by not charging us for the donuts or coffee, so with that money we raised we are donating $250 to the Food for Families program our district runs and $250 to the Nassau Resource Center Food Pantry.”

Special thanks to Pete Zilgme for coming up with this idea, Kristen Landers Zilgme and Stephen Lapolla for helping with the deliveries and all of the East Greenbush staff who donated to this worthy cause!
