Capital Project

The East Greenbush CSD has proposed a $116 million capital project that, if approved by voters, would improve facilities and grounds at all seven schools at no additional cost to the local taxpayer. The proposed capital project will be a proposition on the School Budget Vote and Board Election ballot scheduled for Tuesday, May 21, 2024.

The East Greenbush Central School District began water quality testing earlier this month in accordance with state law to determine the amount of lead that exists in drinking water.

Water received from municipal water sources is tested on a regular basis for contaminants such as lead. However, testing individual fixtures in schools has shown that lead from piping, solder, or fixtures can leach into the water in small amounts after it has entered the building and prior to consumption.

As of March 23, testing has been completed at all schools except Columbia High School and the district has received results for Bell Top, Donald P. Sutherland and Green Meadow Elementary Schools. The deadline for this year’s testing is June 30, 2021.

Of the 169 results we have received from the laboratory so far, 20 outlets were above the New York State Department of Health’s threshold of 15 parts per billion of lead in water, and none were from drinking fountains.

Any outlets above 15 parts per billion of lead will be remediated and resampled.
