Dear Genet Families!

Happy April and welcome back to Genet! I hope that you and your family had an enjoyable Spring Break and you were able to enjoy the warmer weather. This week was filled with excitement as we welcomed back our students to Genet and our 2nd Graders full time. It was wonderful to see them all as one group.

At this week’s Board of Education Meeting, Mr. Simons, Superintendent of Schools, discussed a plan to move towards bringing back students at the elementary level with the recent changes to social distancing requirements (6 ft to 3 ft). More information about the plan will be forthcoming and the Board of Education will review the plan at the next meeting, which is scheduled for Tuesday, April 20th. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at Genet.

Brinley’s Bags Fundraiser:

The Genet team and I are looking for your help in supporting one of our own teachers with a wonderful cause. Mrs. Tarbox (Kindergarten teacher at Green Meadow Elementary School) began this organization in September 2018. She is the mother of Brinley, a micro preemie born April 17, 2018 weighing 1 pound 14 ounces at St. Peter’s Hospital. Brinley spent 60 days in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and is now thriving.

We are asking students to wear a hat to school on April 22nd and April 23rd in support of Brinley’s Bags. Families that would like to make a donation can do so by sending in a suggested donation of $1.00 to your child’s teacher. * All funds raised will go directly to Brinley’s Bags to provide necessities for the NICU care packages. All bags stay local. I hope you will consider supporting this wonderful cause ans wearing a ball cap or hat to school on April 22nd and April 23rd! Genet Purple’s Up in support of Military Families – Wednesday, April 21, 2021!

Military members and military-connected families make many sacrifices for the security and safety of our nation, specifically military-connected children during their K-12 careers. April is designated as the Month of the Military Child or Purple Up! For Military Kids. Across the nation, states and school districts will celebrate the important role military children play while their service member parents serve our country through special events and wearing the color purple. The Military Interstate Children’s Compact Commission (MIC3) selected Wednesday, April 21,2021 as the official Purple Up! For Military Kids day! I welcome all of Genet to please join the Genet Team in celebrating our military families and their children by wearing purple next Wednesday!

Parent Drop-off and Pick-Up Concerns and Changes:

With the increase of students returning at Genet, we have seen an increase of parents wanting to drop off and pickup their children. While we want to accommodate all requests, we are beginning to impact traffic on Route 4. I ask that families please consider having your child ride the bus to and from school to help alleviate traffic congestion. When dropping off in the morning, please follow the direction of the staff member outside. We need parents to pull up as indicated by the staff member to maximize the number of students we can unload at one time.

If needed, I will need to make changes to our drop off /pick up schedule. If you wish to make any changes, please e-mail Mrs. Giordano at giordasa@egcsd.org. Additionally, if you are new to the afternoon parent pickup procedures and we do not know you by child or face yet, please be patient with us. We ask that everyone has their driver’s license with them if we ask to see it.

As a reminder, starting this week the parent drop off will be staffed until 8:55 AM. If there are no staff members at the back doors, please pull around to the front of Genet. Your child will need to be escorted in to the building and signed in at the main vestibule.

Thank you for your assistance with this matter. It is greatly appreciated.

Genet Running Club:

We are excited to share that we will begin holding our Genet Jaguars Running Club starting after the Spring Break. Currently we will be offering the Running Club to our 4th and 5th Graders.    Information was sent home with students this week. At this time, we cannot have a student attend multiple sessions, as we want to ensure all that want to participate are able to do so. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to our PE team: Mr. Leyhane (leyhaneke@egcsd.org) and Mr. Preston (prestonja@egcsd.org). Please click here to view the informational flyer: Genet Jaguar Running Club Informational Flyer.

I wish you all the best this coming week! Thank you for your continued support of Genet!

Sincerely,

Wayne Grignon
