The East Greenbush Central School District proposed a new summer school program for K-12 regular education students in July 2021. The Elevate K-12 Program would be open to students identified as needing additional in-person instruction due to learning gaps created by COVID-19.
Elevate K-12 Program Details:
- Dates: July 6-July 30 for K-8; July 12-August 13 for Columbia High School
- School Day: 8:30-11:30 a.m.
- Grades K-5 Focus: ELA, Math and social emotional support services
- Grades 6-12 Focus: English, Math, Science, Social Studies and social emotional support services
Students would be selected based on academic data (course failures, attendance, engagement, etc.) and recommendations from teachers, principals and school counselors.
“This program has been designed to help address some of the negative impacts that this pandemic has had on our students both academically and emotionally,” said Assistant Superintendent James McHugh. “It will provide some additional structured learning days with a focus on what students need in an effort to ‘hit the ground running’ when we return to school in the fall.”
This summer school program would be run in addition to the Extended School Year Program for special education students.
