The NYS Department of Health and NYS Education Department school reopening guidance has not been changed as it relates to recently announced updates in mask requirements. Therefore, students, staff and parents must all continue to wear masks in schools, on school buses and on school property with some exceptions recently announced for spectators while seated and appropriately distanced during athletic contests. The district wishes to clarify expectations with the school community as Governor Andrew Cuomo announced today that New York State will adopt the CDC’s new mask and social distancing recommendations for vaccinated people starting Wednesday, May 19.

The new state guidance, which does not currently apply to schools, allows fully vaccinated individuals to not wear face masks in most public places. Masks will still be required in schools

In accordance with the Governor’s announcement, immunocompromised and unvaccinated people should continue to wear a mask and social distance when in public places, according to the CDC and NYS Department of Health.
