Governor Andrew Cuomo announced earlier today that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) does not recommend suspension of current state mask requirements inside schools until more children are vaccinated.
The Governor also announced, consistent with guidance for summer camps, masks are no longer required on school property for outdoor activities.
Effective immediately, the East Greenbush Central School District is lifting the mask requirement for outdoor activities. We anticipate this will positively impact remaining athletic events, physical education, recess, outdoor class activities and end-of-year events and outdoor celebrations including graduation.
During the current extreme heat, schools will continue to provide extended mask breaks in class while students are seated and physically distanced among other measures to keep the classrooms as cool as possible.
The East Greenbush Central School District will continue to review any regulations provided by the state and act in accordance with these requirements as needed.
