Chicken nuggets for lunchThe East Greenbush Central School District will continue to offer free meals to all students in the upcoming school year by accepting a waiver issued by the USDA. The waiver allows school districts to offer all students free breakfast and lunch as families continue to be impacted by the pandemic. There is no cost to the district for enrolling in this program. All free meals are reimbursed by the USDA.

Families who feel that they are eligible for free and reduced meals, are still encouraged to complete an application. This application has additional benefits for families such as reduced fees with SATs, AP exams, college course tuition, etc.

“Students’ success in the classroom goes hand in hand with their ability to access basic needs like healthy and nutritious meals,” said Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona. “It’s critical that our efforts to reopen schools quickly and safely include programs that provide access to free, healthy meals for our most vulnerable students, particularly those whose communities have been hardest hit by the pandemic. This program will ensure more students, regardless of their educational setting, can access free, healthy meals as more schools reopen their doors for in-person learning.”

Why should you take advantage of these free meal options?

  • It is available at no cost to your children and no cost to you.
  • It will extend your food budget at home and save you time prepping lunches.
  • There is enough for everyone and you will not be taking food away from anyone.

The district will continue to sell snacks; those may be purchased with account funds or cash.

The Food Service Department thanks you for your participation; our goal is to provide nutrition security and comfort to our students and their families.
