Children’s book author and illustrator Nick Bruel reads from his new chapter book “Bad Kitty Goes on Vacation” during a virtual visit with Green Meadow Elementary School.

Children’s book author and illustrator Nick Bruel visited Green Meadow Elementary School virtually on Tuesday morning through a Google Meet. Mr. Bruel read from his new chapter book “Bad Kitty Goes on Vacation,” he led two drawing exercises for students and answered questions about writing and illustrating books.

Mr. Bruel is the author of the New York Times bestselling Bad Kitty series. During his visit, he showed students how he draws Bad Kitty and how to change emotion in the character with a quick stroke of his pen.

At the end of the visit, Mr. Bruel answered questions from students, including how he became an author and illustrator.

“I’ve been writing and drawing stories all my life,” said Mr. Bruel. “It turns out I do it now because I love it. And it turns out that I love it now as much as I did in first grade.”

This guest author visit was coordinated by Green Meadow Librarian Laura Wladarczyk and sponsored by the PTO.

“Our students are big fans of Nick Bruel and the Bad Kitty books!” said Mrs. Wladarczyk. “It was inspiring to hear about his writing, drawing, and to hear his advice for the young creators at Green Meadow.”
