The East Greenbush Central School District Board of Education filled its vacancy at Wednesday evening’s public meeting when Jennifer O’Brien was officially sworn in. Ms. O’Brien will serve the remainder of Deanna Muth’s term, following her resignation last month. 

Ms. O’Brien’s term ends at the next regular election which is scheduled for May 17, 2022.

“On behalf of my board colleagues, I want to welcome Jennifer O’Brien to the East Greenbush CSD school board,” said Board of Education President Michael Buono. “We look forward to working with her as a representative of our school community.”

Ms. O’Brien has an extensive background in education. She currently works as an academic counselor for the 1199 SEIU union and is a former teacher.

“I am honored to have been selected by the East Greenbush Board of Education for this appointment,” said Ms. O’Brien, who is the parent of two children in the district. “I look forward to serving the community and continuing to provide opportunities for all students.”

Ms. O’Brien has a Master’s Degree in English and a Graduate Certificate in Nonprofit Management and Leadership. She has volunteered for various organizations such as the East Greenbush Community Library Board of Trustees, Meals on Wheels and South End Children’s Cafe.

The Board of Education is a group of nine volunteer members from the community who are elected by voters to establish policy and set direction for the administration of the school district.
