Columbia High School’s chapter for National Social Studies Honor Society, Rho Kappa, is getting in the holiday spirit while celebrating “Moments in Time” throughout history.

The students displayed an artificial Christmas tree on the second floor of the school and then decorated it with ornaments that reflect important moments in U.S. or World History. Some of the ornaments featured the Boston Tea Party, Declaration of Independence, the Moon Landing and the French Revolution.

Each student provided a written submission along with their ornament. The winning ornament will receive a gift card provided by Rho Kappa.

“We are hoping our history holiday tree becomes a new tradition here at Columbia,” said Social Studies teacher and department chair Wendy McAlonie. “It is a creative way to incorporate the Rho Kappa mission; which is to encourage interest in, understanding of, and appreciation for Social Studies, with the festivities of the holiday season.”
