The following information was emailed to district staff and P-12 parents on Thursday, December 16.

For the past 22 months, we have provided information to you regarding the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on our schools. It was vital to share important information about this new virus, prevention strategies, testing sites, vaccine sites, reopening plans and new cases that have been reported to our school district.

We will continue to provide updates and resources about COVID-19 with some modifications to our communication practices. All of our existing information and resources will continue to be available at our COVID-19 Updates webpage, which is prominently located on our website. Additionally, information about daily COVID cases will be shared on that page. However, effective today, we will no longer publish news stories about daily COVID cases or email detailed case information to all staff and parents. This change is being made for the following reasons:

  1. If an individual (student or staff member) is identified as a close contact in a COVID-19 case, they are notified by the school district or county health department directly. Close contacts do not learn about their connection to a positive case from our notifications.
  2. Maintaining the current communication practices for COVID-19 is overshadowing other important school news and public information. Since the start of this school year, 42% of district notifications sent to parents have been COVID case reports. These notifications are not an efficient use of school resources any longer.
  3. The ongoing communication of COVID-19 cases can have a negative impact on mental health.
  4. Daily COVID cases will continue to be posted on the NYS COVID-19 Report Card and on our website at www.egcsd.org/coronavirus.

As always, if you have any questions about COVID-19 or our health and safety procedures, feel free to contact your school nurse or principal. You can also Contact Us through our website.

Thank you for your continued support of the East Greenbush Central School District.
