Roy Stiles was appointed by the Board of Education as the next Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction effective July 1, 2022.
The East Greenbush Central School District appointed Roy Stiles as the next Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, following a vote by the Board of Education on Wednesday evening. Mr. Stiles will start on July 1, 2022, succeeding James McHugh who is retiring at the end of the school year.
“I’m really excited to get started and become part of the community and the school district,” said Mr. Stiles, who attended the board meeting with his family.
Mr. Stiles has worked in education for nearly 20 years. He is currently the principal of Carroll Hill Elementary School in Troy (2016-present) and he has also served as an assistant principal at Troy High School (2011-2016). Mr. Stiles began his career as a mathematics teacher (2003-2011).
“I think having experience at both the elementary and secondary level with a background in teaching provides a global vision that can only help in a position like this,” he said.
Mr. Stiles was selected from a pool of highly qualified candidates following interviews conducted by school teachers and staff, other building principals and district administrators.
“I look forward to welcoming Roy to our leadership team,” said Superintendent Jeff Simons. “His background and leadership approach provides a great fit for where our district is heading regarding curricular and instructional initiatives.”
Mr. Stiles has a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from the University at Albany, a master’s degree in secondary education from The College of Saint Rose and a certificate of advanced study in educational leadership from The College of Saint Rose.
