Howard L. Goff Middle School will be hosting a 6th Grade and New Student Orientation on Thursday, August 25 from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. During Student Orientation, administrators and staff will review important information about middle school and allow students an opportunity to tour the building to see where their classes will be before their first day of school.

Additionally, a schedule is listed below for when the building will be open to parents and students to come into the building to walk the student’s schedule, practice opening lockers and decorating it if they choose to. All students will be using lockers this year and will no longer carry their backpacks throughout the day. As a reminder, no adhesive stickers are to be placed inside the lockers. You must use magnets to adhere decorations. No decorations are allowed on the outside of the lockers. Students must be accompanied by an adult during this time.

 The 6th Grade and New Student Orientation Schedule is as follows:

10:50 a.m.

  •  Parent Drop-Off. All students enter the main entrance. No parents will attend the orientation session.

11:00 – 11:40 a.m.        

  • Group 1: will receive a presentation on important information about middle school, do a “get to know you” activity, review their schedule and have a Q&A session
  • Group 2: will tour the building, follow their class schedule and open their lockers

11:40 a.m. – 12:10 p.m.

  • Group 1: will tour the building, follow their class schedule and open their lockers
  • Group 2: will go to the cafeteria to receive a presentation on important information about middle school, review their schedule and have a Q&A session

12:10 – 1:00 p.m.

  • All students in the cafeteria for a cookout lunch and get to know each other 

1:00 p.m.

  • Parents pick up students outside of the cafeteria

1:00 – 3:00 p.m.

  • Parents can tour the building with their child at this time. All students staying must be accompanied by an adult. Student volunteers will be available to guide students around the building and answer questions. Students will also be given a map of the building with specific locations highlighted. 
    • Only students will be allowed for the orientation (11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.)
    • Entry will be at the main entrance of the building and students will exit the building through the cafeteria after lunch 
    • Please stay home if feeling ill or were exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19.
