Summer School students went camping in class this week, learning all about camping while practicing reading, writing and math. The students in Kayla Rouse’s elementary class completed a writing assignment with the prompt “If I go camping, I will bring …” and then listed the top five items they would bring and why. They also discussed word families such as -ing, -ent, -ike and -ee and tried to build words in those families related to camping activities.
At the end of the week, the class celebrated Camping Week by wearing pajamas to school, assembling a tent in their classroom, going on a short hike, telling ghost stories and making s’mores.
