The following letter was mailed to Genet families on Thursday, August 18.

Dear Students, Parent(s)/Guardian(s),

Let me be the first to welcome you all back to another school year at Genet Elementary School! I hope this letter finds you and your family well and excited to get the school year started. The Genet Team is very excited and eagerly awaiting the return of our students. I would like to welcome back all of our returning students and families; and to all of our new students and their families, officially “Welcome to the Genet Family!” Our first day of school for all students will be on Tuesday, September 6th, 2022.

I always find that each school year brings a new energy of excitement and optimism! This year will offer many opportunities for our students to grow while continuing to excel and build upon last school year. Additionally, when students return, they will be surprised by the updates that are currently taking place at Genet. This summer Genet underwent major construction to update the building. We are replacing all windows (that were original to the building dating back to the 1930s). Bathrooms are being updated; we have several new water fountains being installed with bottle fillers, as well as the refinishing of our gym floor. We will also be welcoming a pre-k program to our school this year with children from around our district.

As a friendly reminder, students entering grades 3, 4, 5 who attended East Greenbush Schools last year, brought home their district issued Chromebook at the end of the 2021-2022 school year. Please make sure your child(ren)’s device is charged and sent to school with them on the first day of school. Students entering K-2 will be issued a new device during the beginning weeks of school.

On Thursday, September 1st, we will be holding our Kindergarten “Meet and Greet.” Information regarding this event is within Kindergarten Packets. This event is also open to any new student to Genet. New students to Genet can visit their new school Thursday afternoon starting at 1:15 PM. We kindly ask that if you planning on attending that you park near the back of Genet. Families will enter Genet from the Kindergarten wing.

Arrival and dismissal procedures for parents driving students to and/or from school are outlined in this link: Parent Transport Procedures. Please be patient during the first few days of school as we hone our procedures. If you plan to transport your child to and/or from school on a routine basis, please be sure to fill out the Transportation Needs Survey at: https://egcsd.org/departments/transportation/bus-routes. Please also email Sandy Giordano at giordasa@egcsd.org. If we are not notified of a parent pick-up in advance, your child will be sent home on the bus.

Enclosed you will find several pieces of information:

  1. Teacher Placement Letter w/ supply list on back and
  2. Transportation Bus Runs

School supply lists for each grade level and neighborhood bus routes are available on the Parent Information tab on the Genet webpage of our district website.

Class lists are finalized at this time and we are unable to make any changes to class groupings. Many factors were considered in the development of class groups, including academic needs, social/emotional needs, and balances in students’ abilities to create true heterogeneous classrooms. All of our teachers are committed to providing quality-learning experiences for our children. We strive to ensure that each of our children receives optimal opportunities to learn and grow each year. If there are any late shifts in enrollment at Genet, adjustments may need to be made to classroom sections and rosters. You will be notified immediately if there are any changes to the teacher placement or cohort assignment. Thank you for your understanding.

Regardless if you are new or a returning family to Genet, I hope that you and your child(ren) enjoy your experience with us and I encourage each of you to take an active role in our school community in any facet possible. You can access the Genet PTO’s website by clicking on the PTO link or by going to the Genet to sign up for text and email alerts regarding PTO items.

Again, opening day for students in all grade levels is Tuesday, September 6th. School begins at 8:40 AM and concludes at 3:05 PM. Our PTO will be hosting the annual Back to School Ice
Cream Social on Friday, September 9th from 6-8 PM in our courtyard by the playground. More details will be coming leading up to the start of the school year.

I want to reiterate how excited the staff of Genet and I are to be part of your child(ren)’s educational journey as we return to our amazing school. Please know that my door is always open to support our students and their families. I look forward to working with each of you.

In closing, I would like to share with you a saying from my days as an elementary teacher and something that I try to share with students: “Work Hard, Be Nice, and Have Fun.” I wish you all the best this year!

Sincerely,

Wayne Grignon
Principal
